The camera moves too much, or I feel motion sick. What should I change?
If you feel nausea or dizziness after your first try, the default settings might be too sensitive for you. Go to Immersive Camera > Profile and select the Head Movements - Relaxed profile. This is a gentle baseline and only uses head tracking. If that is still too fast, lower Speed and raise Stability on Small Head Movements.
That is usually a good starting point: settle into it first, then adjust slowly, adding eye tracking and tuning from there. The Demo profiles each use one input, head or eyes, so you can feel what each one does before you combine them.
Tracking works in Beam, but my game's camera doesn't move. What should I check?
If the Eye Tracking Overlay follows your eyes, Beam is tracking. What is missing is the link to the game. Check these in order:
- Close the game completely and start it again while Beam is tracking.
- Open your game's guide on the games page. Some games need an in-game setting (Star Citizen, F1, Farming Simulator, X-Plane, the TrackIR toggle in MSFS 2024), and a few use a different connection method (X4: Foundations, Prepar3D, FSX).
- In Beam, open General > Game Connection. Keep Head Tracking Device Emulation selected, unless your game's guide names another method, and set Driver to Compatibility. Then restart Beam and restart the game.
- Close other head tracking software, such as TrackIR, Tobii or OpenTrack. It can take over the connection or switch the game's head tracking setting off. If you use OpenTrack on purpose, select Through OpenTrack Application under General > Game Connection.
On Linux or macOS: run the game's Windows build through Proton, Wine or CrossOver. Beam cannot reach a game's native Linux or macOS build. Check that the game's environment is listed under General > Game Connection.
CrossOver on macOS: if it hangs at startup and the game receives no tracking data, try 2.6.9 beta, which fixes that startup hang.
Still not moving? Email [email protected] with the game's name and a screenshot of General > Game Connection.
My controller, wheel or joystick buttons don't work as hotkeys. How do I fix it?
Update the Beam Eye Tracker to 2.6.8 or newer. It includes Microsoft's GameInput fix for buttons not being detected on some controllers, steering wheels and joysticks. The GameInput Compatibility Tool is no longer needed.
Then open General > Hotkeys and assign the button again. More fixes, for Windows, Linux and macOS, are in the Hotkeys guide.
How can I reduce jitteriness?
In the settings: lower Speed and raise Stability on Small Head Movements and Stability on Small Eye Movements. If it still shakes, raise Head Tracking Smoothing and Eye Tracking Smoothing under Tracker in the settings. Both steady the signal against webcam noise and low light. Higher values are smoother but add latency.
Around you:
- Add light in front of you. In a dark room many webcams lower their frame rate, which makes tracking noisier. A bright window behind you has the same effect.
- Glasses can cause glare. Check the Video Preview, then try moving the camera slightly, or to the bottom of your screen, which also helps when thick rims block the view of your eyes.
Why am I being asked to pay again for the Beam Eye Tracker app when I already purchased it?
This usually happens if you're logging in with the wrong email. Sign in with the email address you created your account with. Your purchase is on that account, even if you paid with a different email (for example through PayPal) and the payment confirmation went to that address instead.
If you use Sign in with Google, it signs you in as whichever Google account your browser is on, which may not be the one you created your account with. Sign in with your account email and a password instead. No password yet? Click Reset password at accounts.eyeware.tech.
Bought on Steam? Start the Beam Eye Tracker from your Steam library. The Steam version does not ask you to sign in or pay.
If the issue persists, contact support and provide the email you used to register.
Why is the sign-in failing for my Beam Eye Tracker?
- Update to the current version, from the System tab or from accounts.eyeware.tech. Older versions had sign-in problems that are fixed.
- Sign in with the email address you created your account with. A different address shows the purchase screen instead (see being asked to pay again).
- If you are using "Sign in with Google" make sure you follow the sign-in instructions that appear in your browser after clicking the "Sign in with Google" button.
- Should the app fail to respond after signing in through the browser, the issue might stem from Google not properly notifying the Beam Eye Tracker of the authentication. In such cases, trying a different browser, or restarting your PC and attempting to sign in again could resolve the problem.
- If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to transition your account to authentication using your email address and a password (instead of the "Sign in with Google" option). Please visit accounts.eyeware.tech and sign in. Click on the "Reset password" button and you should receive a password-reset email in your inbox. Follow the instructions to assign a new password. Then, you'll be able to log into the Beam Eye Tracker software by entering your email address and the newly created password and clicking on "Sign In".
- Temporarily disable your anti-virus during authentication.
- Try whitelisting the Beam Eye Tracker in your firewall settings.
- Make sure only one Beam Eye Tracker is installed. A leftover older version, or a Steam copy next to the Standalone one, can be the one showing the sign-in screen.
Beam Eye Tracker starts but then shuts down immediately. What's wrong?
There could be a few reasons why this is happening:
- Antivirus software may block Beam from accessing the webcam or prevent it from running. In Malwarebytes, adding the Beam Eye Tracker as a protected application can fix the issue.
- Some users reported success by turning OFF Windows Security > App & Browser Control > Exploit Protection with a CFG override. If you don't want to do this globally, go to Exploit Protection > Program Settings. Add
BeamEyeTracker.exeand turn OFF Control Flow Guard by overriding the system settings, so that this will only apply to the Beam Eye Tracker. - In some cases, there could be camera access issues. Test your camera's functionality with the generic Windows camera app to confirm that it can see you and start Beam while the Windows camera app is on.
- Finally, in rare circumstances, your calibration or settings file may be corrupted. As a last resort, rename the folder
C:\Users\[Your Windows Username]\AppData\Local\Beam Eye TrackertoC:\Users\[Your Windows Username]\AppData\Local\Beam Eye Tracker(Tmp)and restart Beam. If you confirm this fixed the issue, we would be grateful if you send the old folder to [email protected] so we can investigate what went wrong. You can then delete the old folder.

The installer fails with error 0x80070666 ("Another version of this product is already installed"). How do I fix it?
The current installer no longer has this problem. Download it from accounts.eyeware.tech and run it.
The steps below are only for older installers, such as a previous version from your account page. Despite the wording, the error is not about Beam: the installer brings a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, and a newer one already on your PC stops it.
- Open Windows Settings > Apps and uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64). On some PCs it is called Microsoft Visual C++ v14 Redistributable (x64). Its version starts with 14.
- Run the Beam Eye Tracker installer again. It installs its own copy along with Beam.
If the current installer shows this error, email [email protected] and attach the install log linked from the error window.
Beam Eye Tracker is not showing. What should I do?
- On Windows, check your system tray for the Beam Eye Tracker icon. It may be hidden, so click the arrow on the taskbar to reveal all tray apps. To keep it visible, drag the icon to your taskbar.
- On a Mac, open Beam from its Dock or menu bar icon. On Apple Silicon, 2.6.8 stable uses Rosetta and the first launch can take about a minute. 2.6.9 beta runs natively on Apple Silicon and requires macOS 15.0 or later.
- Uninstall any previous versions of Beam you might have installed at some point (Webcam Edition / iOS Edition / Steam Edition) and reinstall the latest version.
Why does my webcam turn on but show no video, lag, or stop when using Beam Eye Tracker?
As a first step, use the "Video Preview" option in the Beam Eye Tracker software to check whether the webcam video stream shows symptoms such as no video, lag, or disconnections, even though the webcam appears to be ON (e.g., the indicator light is on). Make sure you have granted Beam the necessary permissions to access your webcam in Windows settings (Settings > Privacy & security > Camera). On a Mac, select Grant Permission in Beam, or turn on Beam Eye Tracker under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera, then quit and reopen Beam.
Some users report that antivirus software can interfere with webcam stream access, causing issues like no video display, lag, or disconnections. Try temporarily disabling your antivirus or adding BeamEyeTracker.exe as an exclusion in your antivirus settings.
If the issue persists, check for conflicting applications that may be using the webcam, including your webcam maker's own software (for example Logitech G HUB), update your webcam drivers, or restart the Beam software.
Windows: 2.6.9 beta includes a potential fix for Beam freezing when the webcam fails to start or stops streaming. If it continues after updating, send support your camera model, Beam version, error message, and app logs.
How do I set up the Beam Eye Tracker?
Open the Beam Eye Tracker, go to Tracker > Guided Setup, and click Get Started. The setup walks you through camera selection, positioning, calibration, and your recenter hotkey.
How do I set up the Beam Eye Tracker with my game?
Most games work automatically. Start the Beam Eye Tracker, launch your game, and the in-game camera will respond to your head and eye movements. A few games (like Star Citizen, F1, and Farming Simulator) need a quick in-game setting change. Check the game setup guides for game-specific instructions.
What webcam do I need for the Beam Eye Tracker?
For most users, a standard 720p webcam, built-in or external, is a cost-effective and instant option. It offers solid performance and simple setup at 30 FPS. You can also use free apps that turn your phone into a webcam.
If you're looking to upgrade, make sure you are happy with the app before buying any hardware. If you run into issues, reach out to us.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes.
We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee for purchases of the standalone version from our website. Email [email protected] to request a refund.
On Steam, there is a free 3-hour demo with all features, and refunds are handled directly by Steam under their policy: Steam Refund Policy.
My game's mouse, joystick, or controller view controls stopped working after using the Beam Eye Tracker. How do I fix this?
Beam installs a driver (the FreeTrack 2.0 interface) so that compatible games can detect it. It stays registered after you close Beam, which can stop your game's own view controls from responding (for example, the mouse in Euro Truck Simulator 2 may no longer control the camera).
If Beam is still installed:
- Open the Beam Eye Tracker and go to General > Game Connection.
- Under Head Tracking Device Emulation, set Driver to Not Installed.
- Relaunch your game for the change to take effect.
To use Beam again, set Driver back to Compatibility and relaunch the game. In Euro Truck Simulator 2 you can also switch between head tracking and the mouse with a key.
If you have already uninstalled Beam:
- Install the current Beam Eye Tracker, then uninstall it again. The current uninstaller removes the driver registration.
- Uninstall the OpenTrack application if it is installed.
- Relaunch your game.
I rolled back to 2.5.12. How do I get the current version?
Steam: right-click the Beam Eye Tracker in your library, choose Properties..., open Game Versions & Betas and select Default Public Version. Steam then updates Beam on its own.
Standalone: uninstall 2.5.12, then install the current version from accounts.eyeware.tech.
How do I switch to the beta version?
The beta version lets you try upcoming fixes and features. Check its release notes and system requirements before switching.
Standalone on Windows or macOS: open System, enable Beta Updates, and check for updates. Standalone on Linux: download the beta AppImage from your account and launch it.
Steam: right-click the Beam Eye Tracker in your library, choose Properties..., open Game Versions & Betas, select beta, and let Steam finish updating.
Open About to confirm the installed version, then retest the original problem. Did the beta fix it for you? Please let us know at [email protected], including your version and what you tested.
I purchased the Standalone version but can't find the download. What should I do?
Please visit the accounts page for the Standalone version here: accounts.eyeware.tech.
Do I still need OpenTrack?
No, for most users. Since 2.5.5, the Beam Eye Tracker integrates OpenTrack components directly and games work with Beam out of the box. If you rely on an OpenTrack feature that is not yet built into Beam, you can still use the standalone OpenTrack app alongside it. In that case, select Through OpenTrack Application under General > Game Connection in Beam, so only OpenTrack sends tracking to the game.
How do I add the Eye Tracking Overlay to my stream or recording?
The Beam Eye Tracker outputs a transparent overlay that shows where you're looking. You can capture this in OBS, Streamlabs, or any recording software as a window source. There's a hotkey to toggle the overlay on and off, and you can hide it on your own screen while keeping it visible in the recording or stream.
Windows: if Eye Tracking Overlay is missing from OBS Window Capture, try 2.6.9 beta, which makes it selectable again. Start tracking, enable the overlay, and select it in OBS.
In Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2), when I pause Beam mid-game I can't control the camera with my mouse anymore. How do I fix this?
ETS2 has a built-in toggle for this. Go to Options > Keys & Buttons > Enable Head Tracking and assign a key of your choice to it.
Pressing that key mid-game will switch head tracking off and return full camera control to your mouse. Pressing it again re-enables the Beam Eye Tracker. You do not need to pause or close Beam for this to work.
This is the recommended workflow for ETS2 users who want to switch between eye/head tracking and mouse control on the fly.
ChasePlane in MSFS 2024: How do I get the Beam Eye Tracker working properly?
First, open ChasePlane and check your camera groups. Head tracking is often disabled for external views by default, so make sure it is enabled for every view you actually want it in.
Second, set your center/toggle keybind inside Beam itself rather than using the MSFS 2024 "reset head tracking" binding, which does not play well with ChasePlane.
Do I need to relaunch my game every time I use the Beam Eye Tracker?
No. You only need to relaunch your game once, right after installing Beam for the first time, and only if your game was already running during installation. After the initial installation, you can start Beam and your game in any order.
Does the Beam Eye Tracker work with glasses?
Yes, the Beam Eye Tracker is compatible with glasses. However, performance may slightly decrease with strong prescriptions or glare. If your glasses have thick rims, positioning the camera below the monitor can help maintain visibility of your eyes. You can check how it works with your own glasses: the Standalone version has a 14-day money-back guarantee, and Steam has a free 3-hour demo.
Why can't I connect my iOS app to the Beam Eye Tracker PC software over WiFi?
Windows firewall or network settings may be blocking the connection. Try these fixes:
Add Beam to Windows Firewall:
- Open Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security (search via Windows button)
- Click Inbound Rules in the left column
- Select Action > New Rule > Program > This Program Path > Browse
- Navigate to
C:\Program Files\Eyeware\BeamEyeTrackerand select Beam.exe - Click Next three times
- Name it "Beam Eye Tracker" and click Finish
Set Network to Private:
- Click the WiFi icon in your taskbar
- Select Properties for your current network
- Change network profile to Private (this allows your iOS device and PC to discover each other)
Norton Antivirus blocked my installation. Now I can't uninstall or install and getting error messages. What can I do?
Restore the Beam Eye Tracker files from Norton's quarantine, add them to Norton's exclusion list, then try uninstalling and reinstalling again. If that doesn't work, temporarily disable Norton during installation, then re-enable it and add Beam to the exclusions.
Why is "Eyeware Beam" not listed as an input in OpenTrack?
- First, ensure that you're using the latest version of OpenTrack. You can download the latest version of OpenTrack.
- If "Eyeware Beam" is still not available as an input, your computer may be missing the required Microsoft Visual Studio Redistributables. You can find more information on the official Microsoft website, or use the direct download links below:
- Download x86 version
- Download x64 version
- First, install the x86 version. If the issue persists, install the x64 version as well.
How do I connect a PS3 Eye camera? It's not showing as an input device.
If your PS3 Eye camera is not showing as an input device in the Beam Eye Tracker, it is likely because the correct drivers are not installed. Windows does not include native drivers for the PS3 Eye camera.
To fix this, install the universal DirectShow driver: PS3 Eye Universal DirectShow Driver.
After installing the driver, restart the Beam Eye Tracker and your PS3 Eye camera should appear as a selectable input.
Does the app collect biometric data?
No, Beam Eye Tracker does not generate or store any biometric data.
Can I use the Beam Eye Tracker for developing my own app using the head and eye tracking data or for academic research?
Yes, our SDK is available for those interested in developing applications or conducting academic research using head and eye tracking data. You can access the SDK here. We encourage you to create and share your extensions. Find out what extensions we support on our extensions page.
